Hello Loves,
I wanted to let you know I’ve created a newborn Substack publication called Meeting Life.
For some time, I’ve been feeling called to move my writing into an online space where I can share my heart-speak more freely, and perhaps more widely.
I’d be honored and delighted to have you join me there! ✨
For now, subscriptions are totally free—no paywall—as I begin building my readership and reconnecting with those who resonate. (You’ll find the link directly beneath this letter!)
It’s going to start as essays, (published on a weekly basis) and if I get my shit together maybe evolve to include a podcast.
I know we all have limited bandwidth these days, and audio transmissions seem to be increasingly the most accessible way to connect in the midst of our busy lives.
Meeting Life is a space devoted to sharing wisdom gems and medicine stories gathered from life’s harder initiations—loss, illness, parenthood, failure, heartbreak—and the hard, rewarding path of living in devotion to truth.
I also want it to be a space to celebrate and encourage our ravishing capacity for stillness, sanity, excellent humor, and life-sustaining empathy.
Re: “excellent humor”, I bet you don’t even know I can be a really funny person—because historically, I’ve sucked at letting my humor find its way into my writing. It clearly remains to be seen whether I can crack the code!
I don’t know about you, but these days, laughter cleanses my heart like nothing else. When we’re truly laughing, we’re utterly present— opening to a release that runs deeper than any narrative of fear, longing, or self-concern.
My teacher Gangaji says that in a moment of true laughter our minds stop, and at least for an instant all thoughts cease. What a relief!
Especially in these times, finding authentic ways to laugh together feels both revolutionary and deeply precious.
So I just want to say: I’m committed to standing in the undeniable seriousness of it all—continuously pointing to the deepest possibility of freedom and profound love— without losing the joke, or forgetting to laugh at myself.
For me, writing and storytelling are devotional practices of medicine-making—an ongoing attempt to meet life as it is, and to coax medicine from the marrow of it all.
I just published my first essay over there (the first of many!), sparked by a mundane moment driving through downtown Ashland that opened into a wellspring of profound empathy. It’s titled Meeting Life—Making Medicine of Shared Despair, and needless to say, it leans toward the serious side.
Feel free to click on the link below to subscribe! Thank you.
I love you,
Jesua ✨
